What can I expect during a mouth guard appointment?
Creating custom-fitted sports guards often involves two appointments. During the first appointment, our team will take an impression of your or your child’s teeth. The impressions are sent to a lab, and during the second appointment, the mouth guard is fitted over the teeth to ensure complete coverage, proper fit and comfort.
What is a mouth guard?A mouth guard, sometimes called a night guard, is a custom-crafted oral appliance fitted exactly to the teeth and bite to help prevent grinding during sleep. What is a sports guard?Like a mouth guard, sports guard protects your teeth from damage while during sports activity such as hockey, lacrosse or soccer. While you may purchase sports guards to create yourselves, these may not always fit the teeth properly. At Fort Rouge Dental Group, we offer our patients custom mouth guards, which are fitted precisely to your mouth to provide optimal protection and comfort. Sports guards can also help provide protection for the head and against sports-related concussions. We recommend a custom-fitted sports guard for sports with an increased risk of falling or contact with other players and equipment. |
